Kempegowda International Airport Bangalore is the main airport in Bangalore, Karnataka. It is located in Devanahalli, about 37 km from the city centre. The airport is named after Nadaprabhu Kempegowda, the founder of Bangalore. It is spread across 4,000 acres of land. It is one of the busiest airports in India. The airport has both domestic & international terminals. The airport serves areas like Devanahalli, Yelahanka, Hebbal, Hennur, Thanisandra, and North Bangalore.
Terminals
Kempegowda International Airport Bangalore has two terminals – Terminal 1 (T1) and Terminal 2 (T2).
- Kempegowda International Airport Terminal 1 is used for both domestic & international flights. It was opened in 2008.
- Kempegowda International Airport Terminal 2 was opened in 2023. It is used for domestic flights now and will be used for international flights in the future. Terminal 2 is also called the “Garden Terminal” because it has a lot of greenery.
Runways
The Bangalore airport has two runways.
- The first runway (Runway 09/27) is 4,000 meters long.
- The second runway (Runway 09L/27R) is also 4,000 meters long and became operational in 2019.
- These runways help in handling more flights per day.

- The upcoming Airport Metro Line (Blue Line) under Namma Metro is expected to be completed by 2026. It will connect KR Puram to the airport.
